Dr Peter Abraham is a Research Scientist/ Academic Staff in the Pest Management Unit, Department of Horticultural Technology, Federal College of Horticultural Technology Dadin Kowa, Gombe State, Nigeria, where he teaches and conducts scientific research on crop pests and their management.
Dr Abraham graduated from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State in 2008 with a Bachelor of Agriculture degree and was awarded as the best graduating student in Crop Science. In 2014, he obtained his Postgraduate Diploma Certificate in Education (PGDE) from the National Teachers’ Institute Kaduna, Nigeria. He returned to the University of Maiduguri, Borno State in 2012 for his MSc in Crop Protection (Plant Pathology) and graduated in 2015. In 2018, he had a certificate training in Basic Molecular Biology Techniques from the Center for Biotechnology Research, Bayero University Kano.
He later obtained his PhD (with a speciality in Plant Virology) in 2023 from the famous Department of Crop Protection, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Nigeria. Dr Abraham has research interest and experience in epidemiology, molecular characterization and management of viruses of horticultural crops; application of bioinformatics and computational biology for structural comparative genomics, gene ontology, gene mining, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and molecular docking in plant-pathogen interactions.
He is an active member of several international and national professional organizations including, the American Phytopathological Society – African Division (APS-AD), Nigerian Society for Plant Protection (NSPP), Nigerian Society for Plant Virology (NSPV), Horticultural Society of Nigeria (HORTSON), Weed Science Society of Nigeria (WSSN) and Academic and Grant Writers’ Society (AGES). He has published 50 research and review papers in national and international academic journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. He is a peer reviewer for the Springer Nature Journal. Dr Abraham is the Head of Staff at the Academic and Grant Writing Enclave (AGE). He is happily married and blessed with three children.
